OpenAI president donates $25 million to Trump super PAC

OpenAI co-founder and president Greg Brockman and his wife Anna donated $25 million to MAGA Inc., President Trump's super PAC—the largest single donation in the six-month fundraising cycle. Brockman said the donation reflects "support for policies that advance American innovation." OpenAI has significant business before the federal government, including a $200 million Defense Department contract and a GSA partnership providing ChatGPT to federal agencies. The company has lobbied aggressively against state AI regulation; a ban on these regulations was originally included in President Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill.

Why this is Complicity

Major political contributions are, unfortunately, not new, but President Trump has used contributions to his PAC and other funds as a way for individuals and companies to show loyalty and receive favorable treatment. OpenAI's president's contribution to the PAC, while the company has significant contracts and regulatory business with the federal government, looks like an attempt to earn favorable treatment. Even if the contribution was motivated by support for the President's approach to AI regulation, it will significantly help him advance his entire agenda, from tariffs to ICE raids.
