Avelo Airlines ends ICE deportation contract after protests

Budget carrier Avelo Airlines announced it will end deportation flights for ICE, closing its Mesa Gateway Airport hub on January 27, 2026. The airline had signed a long-term contract with CSI Aviation in April 2025 and dedicated three Boeing 737s to the operation. Following months of protests at airports, the airline stated the program "did not deliver enough consistent and predictable revenue." The flight attendants' union praised the decision.
