Northwestern University settles with Trump administration for $75 million

Friday, November 28, 2025

Northwestern University agreed to pay $75 million to restore $790 million in frozen federal funding. The settlement requires antisemitism training, new protest policies, and single-sex housing and athletics for women "defined on the basis of sex." It also reverses a 2024 agreement that had promised more support for Muslim and Palestinian students. Illinois Governor JB Pritzker said, “I am of the belief that every time a university signs an agreement based upon this extortion, they’re whittling away, just a little bit, at the democracy we’ve all relied upon.”
