Spotify
Spotify ran ICE recruitment ads on its free tier throughout 2025 as part of the Trump administration's $30 billion push to hire 10,000 deportation officers. The ads referenced "dangerous illegals" and offered $50,000 signing bonuses. Spotify received $74,000 from the Department of Homeland Security and defended the ads as compliant with its policies. Following public pressure, including the Indivisible Project's boycott campaign, Spotify stated in January 2026 that ICE ads are no longer running. However, the company did not say that they would not run these ads in the future.
Why this is Complicity
Advertising is a critical part of the administration's recruitment efforts, which in turn have enabled ICE to expand its presence and activities around the country. By running these ads, Spotify was contributing to the surge of ICE agents in American communities. While Spotify is not currently running ads, they may still in the future; their statement was only that “there are currently no ICE ads running on Spotify.”
Indivisible's Ezra Levin stated, “Spotify chose to run ICE ads all of last year, as ICE’s actions became more brutal and more deadly. The company’s confirmation that it’s no longer running ICE recruitment ads does not signal a newfound moral compass. Additionally, it has still refused to say whether it will continue doing business with Trump’s fascist security force in the future."
