Columbia University agrees to administration demands, pays $221 million

Columbia University agreed to pay the federal government $221 million to restore approximately $400 million in frozen federal funding. Columbia agreed to ban masks at protests, add 36 campus police officers with arrest powers, appoint a senior vice provost to oversee Middle East studies programs, prohibit DEI programs, install an independent compliance monitor, and suspend or expell nearly 80 students from pro-Palestinian protests.
