After President Trump posted on Truth Social that "a whole civilization will die tonight" if Iran did not meet a U.S. deadline, and threatened to target Iranian civilian infrastructure including power plants and bridges, several Democrats publicly called for his removal via the 25th Amendment, impeachment, or both. Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) called Trump "unstable and a clear and present danger" who "must be removed from office before he causes incalculable and unfathomable harm." Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) called the comments "deranged" and warned "Republicans who don't stop him will have blood on their hands." Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) said intentionally destroying civilian infrastructure "would constitute a war crime, a betrayal of the values this nation was founded on, and a moral failure." Sen. Tina Smith (D-MN) said "threatening war crimes undermines our nation's leadership in the world." Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) said Trump "is threatening war crimes of horrific proportions against civilians." Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) called the post "a horrifying threat of genocidal war crimes." Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA), a former Air Force officer, called it "the epitome of an illegal order." Rep. Yassamin Ansari (D-AZ) said "The 25th Amendment exists for a reason; his Cabinet should use it," calling for impeachment of Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. Gov. JB Pritzker (D-IL) became the first sitting governor to call for 25th Amendment invocation. House Democratic leadership separately described Trump as "completely unhinged" and demanded Speaker Mike Johnson reconvene the House, which was in recess until April 14.

"It's insane this is legal. People around Trump are profiting off war and death." Sen. Murphy announced plans to introduce legislation banning prediction market wagering on military conflicts and assassinations after blockchain analysis revealed six newly created Polymarket accounts made $1.2 million correctly betting on the timing of U.S. strikes on Iran, with one account placing its first trade 71 minutes before the news became public.
